Elemendorf AFB on base housing is housing is privatized and operated by Aurora Military Housing. Aurora Military Housing (907) 753-1023 offers nineteen neighborhoods with 70 different floor plans. They are pet friendly and offer amenities such as: discounted TV, playgrounds, utilities included and complimentary renters insurance.

Anchorage has about 298,000 people, and is for practical purposes the only urban area nearby. The only other nearby community is Eagle River, a small town. Anchorage is the largest city in Alaska. It is generally cold in winter, cool in summer, and surrounded by wilderness. It is about 15 minutes from central Anchorage to Elmendorf, in good weather, but there is often bad weather, and the city is spread out. Major local employers are the shipping, oil, logging and other resource extraction industries, the military, and various Alaska corporations.
Anchorage is the closest city to Elmendorf AFB and is the only major one nearby. Cities, small towns, and villages tend to be very spread out in Alaska and surrounded by rugged, but often breathtaking, terrain. The cities near Elmendorf AFB are Anchorage, Eagle River, Chugiak, and Birchwood.
About Elmendorf AFB
Elmendorf Air Force Base is home to the Alaska NORAD Region and the 3rd Wing. The wing is responsible for training and equipping the Air Expeditionary Force and providing tactical airlift and combat support force for worldwide deployment. Since 2010, Elmendorf Air Force Base has been part of Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson.Other tenant units at the base include the 477th Fighter Group, the 176th Air Control Squadron, and the 732nd Air Mobility Squadron among others.
